Parking Your Car |

Where and how you park your car can be important for your own security, and that of your car.. |
|---|
On average, car parks that have implemented certain measures in order to achieve the standard, such as better lighting and surveillance, have managed to reduce car crime by 70%. There are now over a thousand Secured Car Parks across the UK, each entitled to display a special plaque indicating it has met the required standard. Look out for this plaque and take it as a sign of a better place to park. If you can't find a secure car park, for your own safety and security, park somewhere that is quite busy and that is well lit at night. If possible reverse into the parking space so that you can get away quickly in an emergency, and if using a multi-storey car park choose a space that is close to the exit and away from pillars if you can. When returning to your vehicle have your keys ready and quickly look at the back seat just to make sure no one has climbed in, and choose a car park that is well supervised with restricted entry and exit points and CCTV cameras. Consider fitting security lights outside your home to light up the space where you park at night. For the security of your car and its contents, you should again, park somewhere well lit, and preferably in a car park meeting the Secured Car Parks standard. Lock all doors, close windows and use any security devices you have. Make sure that the things in your car are not left in view. At home, use your garage if you have one. If you don't have a garage leave your car on the driveway or somewhere where you can see it easily from your home and where others are also likely to be able to see it. Before using any outside building to house your car, make sure your shed or garage is secure. |
